Megan Magee was the star of the Portland Football Club U13 girls team on Wednesday. As the PFC girls made their debut in the East Region Soccer League (ERSL), Magee stopped not one, but two penalty shots in her position as netminder. The U13 girls ended up losing only 3-0 against the much more experienced girls of Brockville.

The PFC U16 team also started the season with a loss, 0-4 against Belleville, but they too walked away with their heads held high. Belleville took a quick 0-3 lead but was kept to one goal in the second half.

"The defenders were incredible because the score could have been a lot higher. In the second half we made the change to bring a few more people back and got better results," said U16 coach Anders Carson.

PFC had to play without key strikers Ryan Patterson and Michael OÕMeara, as well as fast defenseman Alex Bahm and Jade Meadus. Patterson and OÕMeara were competing at the Eastern Ontario track and field championships in the 4X100 relay race.

"I was pleased. We had not had a sparring match at all. With PFC games in the past we have given it up in the second half, but we are not now. We made the adjustments at half time."

On Wednesday, May 23, the U11 boys team, coached by Shawn Merriman and Craig Lapierre, started their season with a loss against Kingston United.
