Coaches of the Portland Football Club (PFC) will make final cuts to complete their teams this week.

The under 16 boys (U16), under 13 girls (U13) and under 11 boys (U11) will all play games in the East Region Soccer League (ERSL) starting next month.

"We had 19 players out and there were a couple who had called ahead who could not make it out that night," said coach Anders Carson about the U16 team that will have a second outing this Thursday.

"It was great to see those numbers because we lost a few players due to their age last year." Amongst others, PFC keeper Robbie Beveridge and John and David Waenink returned to the squad. Carson will name the team and start filing paper work on Friday.

The U16 boys will be practicing twice a week until the beginning of the season early June. Eight girls attended the U13 girls soccer tryouts last week.

"SOS, we need more girls," said Carson about the team coached by Scott Halladay.

"We really want this team to fly. When I started PFC only four boys came out and see what happened. You have to entice people and show them this is a viable club. It is a good club," Carson said with confidence that the team will eventually materialize. "We need four or five more."

The tryout for the U11 boys team coached by Shawn Merriman and Craig Lapierre was particularly successful. "It was fantastic," said Carson.

"They made the cuts other night and there are 13 boys." The PFC U11 boys will compete in a team of seven and play in the width of the field. Girls who are interested in joining the U13 team can call Carson at 613-272-3354.
