The Portland Football Club's run at the East Region 2006 Soccer Cup was short lived. On Saturday PFC lost against Gloucester in Ottawa.

The 2006 ER Cup is separate from the regular league PFC competes in. 443 teams from across the region play in a knock out based system. If you lose one game you are out.

The competition runs parallel with the regular league. This was the first time PFC entered in such a cup. In the first half PFC made life difficult for Gloucester, who took four yellow cards.

The team of head coach Anders Carson missed a penalty kick. However, in the second 45 minutes the host dominated and the final score was 7-0.

On Thursday PFC played a regular game in the East Region Soccer League against the Cataraqui Clippers. It was the first time this season the two sides met. Portland played with back up goalie Rob Beveridge in net.

Beveridge had a solid performance, but couldn't prevent the Clippers from scoring twice, once in each half.

"We didn't fall apart in the second half. That was a good thing," said Carson, referring to a trend he has seen in the last couple of games.

PFC is looking to improve on their 1-1-3 record. The under 16 boys have gathered four points in five games. Tonight, Thursday June 29, they face another Clippers team, again on the road in Kingston.

The next PFC home game is July 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Kin Park on Harlem Road. "We are slowly getting better on the road, but I am really looking forward to playing these teams again on our own turf. That will be a different story," said Carson.
