When
Julie Garneau scored for the Portland Football ClubÕs U13 girls three
weeks ago, coach Scott Halladay said it straight away. Something changed
in the attitude of his team right then.
On Thursday his words were proven right as goaltender Megan Magee
kept her net clean and Michelle Glover scored the only goal against
the Cataraqui Clippers in the first PFC win of the season.
"It was huge," said Halladay, one of three PFC coaches who got his
coaching papers earlier this year and is managing an ever-growing
group of soccer players in the region.
The win was not only the first for the girls, it was the first for
any of the three PFC teams this year.
Meanwhile the U11 and U16 boys are still waiting for their momentum
to grow as both teams lost this week. Coach Anders Carson of the U16
squad said his team "got absolutely destroyed" by Belleville on Thursday,
but he hopes to regain composure this Thursday [July 5] when they
face Brockville at home at Kin Park on Harlem Road at 18:30 p.m.
Three Brockville players have already received red cards this season,
while none of the PFC players received penalties.
The U11 boys play an away game against Belleville on Wednesday and
the girls are on the road as well.
