"The whole team is going to have to step up," said PFC coach Anders
Carson. "It is a team sport. Everyone realizes we are going to have
to pick up our game, this is when true leaders come through. We
have someone down on our team, letÕs all pick up our game," Carson
said.
In the first half on Thursday the Clippers dominated the game, but
outstanding goaltending from Christian Bresee kept PFC in contention.
Bresee, who is quickly gaining a reputation in the league for his
determined and dominating style of goaltending, stopped at least
six scoring chances in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half PFC took the game to the visitors.
At times Portland attacked with five strikers. As the pressure on
the Clippers goal increased some of their defenders showed undisciplined
behavior.
As the final whistle blew, Tommy Mercer was tackled by two Clippers.
Mercer stayed down for more than 15 minutes and was examined on
the field. Despite injuring his shoulder he is expected to return
to the team this week.
The final score was 2-0 for Cataraqui who had three wins, two ties
and two losses coming into the game.
PFC was one, one and five.
"We are going to have to have more runs into the box by our defenders.
We were working on that in practice on Monday," said Carson. PFC
opened the season against the Belleville boys with a 1-1 tie at
home.
The next Portland home game is on July 20 when the boys take on
Quinte West at Kin Park on Harlem Road at 8:30 p.m.
