This week, Kingston United won the Premier Division of the East Region Soccer League (ERSL) for boys 16 years and younger.

The Portland Football Club (PFC) finished in seventh place with a record of two wins, a tie and 11 losses in its first full season of ERSL play.

Throughout the season only two players of PFC were handed a yellow card, making the squad one of the best behaved in the league.

Seven players scored for PFC. Nathan Teixeira, who left the team halfway through the season after sustaining a thigh injury, was top scorer with six goals.

Ryan Paterson had four. Christian Bresee, who played goalie position in the first few meets before Robbie Beveridge took over, scored twice. David Waenink, Dylan Rodgers, Michael OÕMeara and Tyler DeKroon each had one marker.

PFC had its biggest victory on July 29 when the team of head coach Anders Carson defeated Brockville 3-1.

One of the most spectacular games however was a 3-5 loss against Kingston United, the team that ended up winning the league. In that match PFC tied the game at three apiece with three goals from Teixeira, only to lose by two goals in the end.

Throughout the season the boys in red and black managed to create a true fan base, oftentimes attracting as many as 70 spectators to their Thursday home games. PFC will lose several key players as overagers, but coach Carson has already committed to carry on the soccer tradition at Kin Park on Harlem Road in Portland next year.
