About Portland at the Movies
In 2006 we expanded our program of fun, outdoor activities to include movie screenings. Since then, a continuously growing group of film enthusiasts have gathered in Portland to watch a great selection of movies.

This new exciting initiative kicked off in July 2006 with the screening of musician Jack Johnson's Thicker than Water, a film about surfing with a great soundtrack. The sound was amazing and the setting was perfect overlooking the Big Rideau from the former Gallagher House property.

Throughout the winter, even cold temperatures didn't keep people from coming out to watch movies and drink hot chocolate. The movie selection so far, mainly documentaries from the National Film Board, included Being Caribou, National Geographic's Grizzlies and Bill Mason's Song of the Paddle.

Organizers have a great selection lined up for this summer. All movies begin at 8:30 p.m. at 14 Water Street, the former Gallagher House property in Portland , unless otherwise specified. Thanks to Bob Sneyd and the Centre for Sustainable Watersheds, who donate the use of this great location, which overlooks Big Rideau Lake.

Make sure to check our archives to see which movies we've already featured and who sponsored them.

We do not charge admission for any of the films we show but we do hope you make a donation, which will go towards the purchase of new films from the National Film Board.
If you are interested in sponsoring a film or would like to suggest a movie, please let us know.
